Caution! Highway to disaster ahead

Beware of the 11-kilometre stretch of the NH-4 just outside the city, from Nelamangala to Chikbidarkalu. There have been 133 accidents along this stretch of the highway in just three months since September this year, according to the data with the Nelamangala Police. In November alone,there have been 30 accidents which claimed five lives. That followed 39 accidents with 10 deaths in October, and 64 accidents with five deaths in September.

Several construction projects are under way along the stretch, including four dangerous U-turns between the Jindal Aluminum Factory in Chikbidarkalu and Nelamangala

"The NH-4 is the worst highway in India and, obviously, this stretch is the worst,” said MN Srihari, a traffic and transportation adviser to the State government.Read More
